Action Figures

What is an Action Figure?

An action figure is a figurine made of plastic or other materials, and usually based from characters of a comic book, movie, television program, or video game. These are usually advertised towards boys. Action figures that can be redress are referred to as action dolls.

Action figures are popular with boys because they symbolize traditional masculine traits. Today, it is not only advertised as children's toy but also as an adult collector item.

Popular Characters turned into Action Figures

G.I. Joe is the first ever action figure toy launched. It is produced by a toy company named Hasbro. G.I. stands for 'Government Issue'. The initial product offering symbolizes the four (4) U.S. Armed Forces branches - the Soldier (Army), Action Marine (Marines), Action Sailor (Navy), and Action Pilot (Air Force). There are two different G.I. Joe action figure lines: the original 12-inch line which started in 1964; and in 1982, a 3 3/4-inch line complete with vehicles, play sets, and a story between the G.I. Joe Team and the evil Cobra Command.

The Transformers is an animated action series portraying a war between giant robots who could transform into vehicles, animals, and other objects. It was written and recorded in the United States and animated in Japan. The series was based upon the line of transforming toys created by Takara, a Japanese toy manufacturer. It was later developed into the Transformers line by Hasbro. There are also 'Dinobots' - transform into Dinosaurs, and 'Headmasters' - transform into a tiny robot and controls the body.

Batman is a comic book superhero created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger that first appeared in DC comics in 1939. He is also known as the Dark Knight, the World's Greatest Detective, and the Caped Crusader but he is popularly called the Bat by his fans.

Superman is a very popular comic book superhero that has millions of fans worldwide. He is branded as the man of steel and is widely considered to be an American cultural icon. The character was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1932. The character's appearance is unique and iconic - a blue, yellow, red costume with cape and a letter "S" shield on his chest.

Spiderman is another popular fictional superhero from Marvel Comics. The character was created by two writers, Stan Lee (writer-editor) and Steve Ditko (writer-artist). He is an orphan raised by Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (TMNT) is a popular television series back in 1987. It is originally a character in a comic book created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird published by Mirage Studios in 1984 in New Hampshire. Later, a toy company in California collaborated with the creators to produce an action figures based on the ninja turtles.
Along with popular TV series, and action figure line, the Turtles' likeness could be found on a wide range of children's products - breakfast cereal, cameras, linens, video games, towels, school supplies, toy shaving kits and many more.

The Ben 10 Alien Force Story

Ben fights these evil villains with the help of his grandpa, Max and cousin, Gwen. They run into strange evil characters, such as Vilgax, who is after the Omnitrix, Dr. Animo the mad scientist, and vampire clown, Zombozo. Cartoon Network produces Ben 10, which originally aired December 2005.

Ben was just an ordinary boy when he spent the summer with his grandpa and cousin on a camping trip. After fighting with Gwen, Ben retreats into the woods and stumbles upon an alien pod that look like a watch. This mysterious watch-like pod contains alien DNA and allows people to live like an alien. The Omnitrix, as it is called, permanently attached itself to Ben, giving him the ability to be one of 10 different aliens. Ben can change into one of these aliens by a control dial, but Azmuth, the original creator of the Omnitrix, placed safeguards so that the Omnitrix will only work properly for the Master Control. Ben must get used to constant alien changes and other unpredictable controls from the Omnitrix.

Ben 10: Alien Force is a sequel to the original Ben 10 cartoon. It takes place five years after Ben discovers the Omnitrix. This series began airing on Cartoon Network in April 2008. Cartoon Network Upfront confirmed the new series, Ben 10: Evolutions, which will follow 16-year old Ben as a well-known hero. In this new series, Ben has a new Omnitrix that will take him to new and mysterious places.

No cartoon is successful without action figures and assorted toys. Ben 10 action figures come in several different characters and playsets. Bandai® creates the classic Ben 10 and Ben 10: Alien Force action figures. You can buy each alien Ben morphs into, such as Heatblast, Diamondhead, Four Arms, Upgrade, Stinkfly, Wildmut, and others. The DNA Alien Heros collection action figures can ooze DNA slime bubbles or other features. Each alien has its own unique features. The Meta-Morfigures can become two different toys; each one with a different feature. Alien Creatures resemble the look of each different alien, and comes with a 4" version of the matching alien.

You can also find other Ben 10 toys, such as an Omnitrix watch that can change aliens or battle villains, an alien voice changer that allows the user to be the voice of Greymatter, Heatblast, or Four Arms. Other alien voices come with a second voice changing set. Transforming Arms sets allow the user to snap on an alien arm, which comes with sound effects and phrases. The Vilgax Battle Planet is a battle ground that allows different game play using 1" or 4" action figures.

Ben 10: Alien Force action figures include new alien creatures, new DNA aliens, an r/c car, action cruiser, and an Omnitrix Illuminator. This Omnitrix can project aliens and other scenes from the latest season of Ben 10 on a wall or any other surface.

Gears of War Action Figures

The video game finally makes an impact in the collectibles scene with NECA's release of Gears Of War action figures. After the success achieved by the huge Xbox 360 franchise, a decision was made to bring GoW toys to the ever booming market. Popularity will continue to grow as there has been word the game is soon to become a movie, as well as the confirmed finale to the series; Gears 3 to be released in April of 2011.

Action Figures Series One

The first release of toys based on the massively exciting Xbox 360 game was made public in the middle of 2008; much to the delight of fans nationwide. NECA was able to recreate some stunning, high quality figures which were lifelike and as close to those characters in the game as possible.

This first set included Marcus Fenix, Delta Squad leader as well as fellow COG Augustus Cole. Not to mention the two horrible (in a good way), Locusts, Locust Drone and Locust Snipe. A box set was made readily available for fans, as well as single boxes of each character. These also included all extra accessories and a head that could be substituted for either Locust.

Series Two

After the first series' success, NECA was given the go ahead to create another set of Gears Of War toys; which were released later on in 2008, November. Promising signs were shown in terms of added articulation, quality was maintained and the figures please many fans.

Four new additions were added, Dominic Santiago and Damon Baird (fellow COGs) as well as the Theron Guards, Marcus Fenix received a touch or two and was released once again.

Series Three

The third set of NECA's toys were released at the beginning of 2009. Four new in game characters were transferred to be created as real world models.

Once again a new version of Delta Squad leader, Marcus was released - he had received some note able retouching, requested by fans. A COG soldier (who I believe is Benjamin Carmine) was created, as well as a Theron palace Guard, Locust grappler and variation of the Locust Cyclops. Once again, the figures included in game accessories and weapons.

For Kids - Jurassic Park Toys

Jurassic Park is a science fiction novel turned into a movie during the nineties as an approach towards warning people about unconsidered biological tinkering. The movie revolves around the concept of chaos theory involving the sudden collapse of an amusement Park which strived by showcasing dinosaurs which were genetically altered for entertainment. Beginning from a novel, the story was later adapted into a series of blockbuster movies from which Jurassic Park toys rose.

Jurassic Park toys features the dinosaur characters as well as the human characters that were shown in the movie; the toys also include the particular vehicles and weapons that were used to deal with the escapee dinosaurs. Some of the toy manufacturers who worked with the movie franchise also came up with accessories where you can build your own jungle and laboratory setting at home. The latter are great tools by which you can encourage a child to develop his or her imagination in terms of how the child would be arranging the toys.

There are a number of different toys today that do not engage children to think or be imaginative for that matter and most of the time these toys only act as electronic babysitters in a way that they can distract the children for a couple of hours or so. With Jurassic Park toys however, children are encouraged to think and imagine different fantasies, scenarios, or storylines as they play with the toys. Simple as it may seem, this encouragement can help develop the thinking skills or abilities of the children to solve problems and handle situations and this is a skill that will follow them through to adulthood.

The series of Jurassic Park toys available commercially are not limited to plain action figures and the like. It is actually possible to find accessories of the movie franchise in the forms of beddings, rugs, curtains, wallpaper borders, lamps, and anything under the sun to make it possible for an enthusiast to create the Jurassic Park environment in his own space. Remember though that these products are good if a child can live with them but if he or she gets scared easily, you might want to think twice about purchasing certain items for your child.

Jurassic Park toys can accommodate the desires of male and female children and enthusiasts alike. Boys can have the satisfaction of playing with or collecting action figures and play sets while girls can avail of the plush dinosaur figures and dolls. When selecting these kinds of toys, it would be best if you consider how old the person you are gifting them to is; it is better if you give these toys as gifts to older children who understand the fact that these dinosaurs would not be coming back to life.

Jurassic Park toys have entered the market with the success of the movie franchise across the world. With each different sequel came about a number of new action figures, vehicles, plush toys, play sets, and other accessories. Basically, there is an endless selection of these toys from which everyone can choose from.

Jurassic Park toys and accessories can be purchased separately or in sets depending on what the customer would like. These items are quite affordable and these can actually become a good investment you can make for you child. These toys will provide unlimited fun for any child or enthusiast who loves dinosaurs.

These Jurassic Park toys can easily be obtained in any retail stores in your area. These come in a wide selection of items that can cater to any whim or interest. Check out the different Jurassic Park toys available today and you will surely find something for you.

Toys From Summer Blockbusters 2008

Star Wars was the big bang as far as film merchandising and children's toys where concerned. The demand for the toys was so high that the manufacturers could not keep up with demand. For Christmas 1977, they sold boxed vouchers for various toys. The toys sold in the "Empty Box" campaign during December were not delivered until the following March. Now that's demand!

As a prime candidate for Star Wars toys I was amazed and overjoyed to be drip fed a succession of action figures, play sets, books, comics and even duvet covers over the following years. My imagination could run riot with these extra props to help me.
I still have some of my original figures and my own kids play with them and seem to enjoy them as much as did.

Now in my old age I am slightly more cynical about the summer blockbuster season and the ensuing avalanche of toys that it brings. Sometimes I wonder if the toys are created and shoehorned into the films rather than the reverse. Anyone who has had the misfortune to sit through a Bratz, Pokemon or Power Rangers film in the cinema will understand where I am coming from. A slow cultural death by poor dubbing, hack writing and flimsy plot lines.

My son's birthday is in mid June which makes him a prime target for the hard sell of the summer movie merchandising. I was heartened this year that two of the major films have decent characters to hang their toys upon. Both Iron Man and Indiana Jones have long histories and characters that should have a life beyond the end of August.

Both the films have gone for the marketing synergy of a tie in with Burger King. The Iron Man set included a cool figure, if a little small, and some funky sun glasses that my son loved. The Indiana Jones toys from Burger King include Boulder Escape Indy, Stunt Jump Indy, they are fun but again a little on the small side.

The main thrust of the Iron Man toys are action figures. The figures made by Hasbro are neat. The design from the packaging to the figures are great, the colours strong and likeness to the film characters are impressive. In line with other comic book hero's the advantage is that the Iron Man toys can do battle with other Marvel and DC superhero's. They have also released a set of dress up outfits with masks, suits and weapons. These look like great fun and should ensure hours of good imaginative play.

Lego appears to be the main trust of the Indiana Jones toys. They have released a variety of different sets covering most price ranges. The Motorcycle Chase with its mini motorcycle and check point looks immense fun. I've never been convinced that the larger play sets are worth the money or the time to construct. The never stay complete for that long in my house!

I love Lego and it has a shelve life that easily out strips the life span of most toys. Once the thrill of the film has died away the Lego can be reused in any number of ways, combined with other sets, morphed and redesigned. The small figures will join the never ending army of Lego figures that double as everything from crowds at soccer matches to holiday makers at the airport or flood victims in need of rescue.

With the new influx of toys the issue becomes what to do with those from last year! What should I do with those Transformers that are cluttering up the toy box.

5 Tips For Maintaining Action Figure Toys

Buying collectible action figures is a long process as you need to think which figures to choose and which to ignore. You make an extensive search online and offline before making a decision. It's a stressful process. Well, your job is not done yet, after buying the figures you also need to take proper care of them so that you can gladly show them to your friends. You need to maintain your action figures toys always and for that here are some useful tips.

1. The Preservation -
The preservation of collectible action figures is not a complicated process, it is very simple. Actually, the packaging of these toys is not made to protect them from sunlight, so it is better to store your toys in a waterproof container away from windows or you can also store them in a cardboard at a place that does not allow moisture. Storing the action figures toys in the basement is also not a good idea. When you store your figure toys in the basement in a cardboard packing and if the basement gets very cold, the packing may become damp and the cards will begin to bend. Storing the collectible action figures in an airtight container is necessary at places that have fluctuations in temperature.

2. Displaying the Figures -
When you want to display your collectible action figures carded, you can do it at a place where the sunlight is not coming directly on the figures. At a place like a recreation room, you could hang them on the walls. And for loose (without packing) action figures toys, a glass case or a shelf works well as long as you keep dust off them and also prevent then from sunlight.

3. Regular Care of the Figures -
You should also fight off dust and dirt that build-up on the figures. When the figures get dirty, they can be easily cleaned by simply soaking them in soapy water and scrubbing them gently with a soft toothbrush. Also the dust can be removed easily with an air-propelled dust remover that is used for computers.

4. Caution for Packing -
You also need to take care of the backing as that cardboard used is inexpensive and it can easily bend or peel apart when improperly handled. Also, then natural oil of your finger may cause the inks on the packing card to discolor when touched too often. All these things lessen the mint value of the action figures toys as mostly the collectors are concerned of such thing while buying a 'mint on card' action figure. So, if you store your toys in boxes, use sturdy plastic containers to keep out the excess humidity. Store each statue in separate plastic container.

5. Expanding Your Collection -
When you collection starts looking paltry in your eyes, it is time to expand your collection of action figures toys. You should replenish your collection every so often to have the status of a prime action figure collector. While expanding your collection, keep an important thing in mind that quality always tops quantity. So, first know what pieces you lack and which figures can enhance the beauty of your collection. Always have the best collection (yet affordable, do not go over budget) and take care of them.

So, keep your collectible action figures in excellent condition always by following the above guide. This will give a long life to your collection.

5 Hot Christmas Toys For Action-Loving Little Boys

Manufacturers, toy sellers and critics are starting to come out with their hot toy lists for the 2007 Christmas season. The list includes a wide range of low and high tech toys in a huge range of prices with a variable range of themes. There's truly something for everyone, but this article is going to focus on toys suitable for action-loving little boys.

Gift buyers who assume a little boy will like anything they can bang or shoot or make loud noises with is only partially right. Little boys do love all of these characteristics but in my experience (with two boys of my own) what really makes a good little boy toy is one in which the child can expand the intended play. Boys like to take the toy and find a way to incorporate it with other toys, with their siblings, with their friends or with a willing parent.

There are several items on many of the lists that fit this bill and are appropriate for little boys who love action. Categories on the lists run the gamut from action figures (Spiderman and Transformers), to online gaming and collecting (Swypeout Online Battle Racing), onto transportation (Air Hogs Havoc Heli) and ending at target practice (Hasbro Nerf N Strike, Here's are descriptions of 5 "hot toys" for action loving boys:

1. Hasbro Nerf N-Strike Disk Shot: This nerf toy takes target practice to the next level with 12 foam, fast-moving disks that ensure endless moving target practice. A cartridge attached to the top of the blaster lets your child chose when to launch the disks at several exciting angles (straight up, 45 degrees, or left and right). About $50.

2. Air Hogs Havoc Heli: This is an extremely high tech and compact radio controlled helicopter that can fly in any direction with complete accuracy. Like a real helicopter, the Havoc can hover in one spot and can fly up to 100 feet high in the air. Since up to three Air Hogs helicopters can fly in the same room at the same time, the toy is perfect for having like-minded friends over. The Havoc fits in the palm of a hand and is extremely lightweight. Available in three colors (yellow, red and blue), no assembly is required. About $80.

3. Swypeout Online Battle Racing: Swypeout is an innovative, interactive racing game that combines two boy obsessions - online gaming and collectible trading cards. Kids logon to sypeout.com and compete to be the top battle racer. To enhance their playing, boys collect digital cards to swipe through the game's USB scanner. Boys can collect new cars, gear and weapons for their online gaming experience. About $30.

4. Transformers Movie Ultimate Bumblebee: Other than Spiderman, Transformers was probably the year's most popular movie for boys. The Transformers Movie Ultimate Bumblebee is a huge, bright yellow 2008 Camaro that transforms into a robot. This is a very large, (14 inches) sturdy toy which is why it commands its approximately $30 price tag.

5. Spider-Man 3 Movie Action Figures: Riding on the tale of the very popular Spider-man III movie, Hasbro is out with a fresh selection of Spider-Man action figures including several new versions of Spider-Man himself, as well as new versions of Peter Parker, the Green Goblin and the Sandman. These toys are all under $10.

Revenge of the Fallen Transformers

Are you fond of science fiction movies? There are lots of science fiction films that are made these days. You might have heard about the revenge of the fallen transformers which released in the year 2009. This was an action film and was a sequel to the transformers which released in the year 2007.

The makers of the film have announced a transformers trilogy and this movie is the second film of the trilogy. The film starts two years after the first part ended. In this movie the autobots have found their home in the NEST.

The NEST is actually a military unit which is secret and is used to destroy the decepticons that are still alive. Autobots and decepticons are the two groups of transformers who are bent on destroying each other.

While on a mission the autobots destroy two of the decepticons but while they die they promise that the fallen will surely rise again and will destroy the autobots. This is the actual plot of the film and the storyline on which the film revolves. After the film released the transformer toys were the first to become a hit.

They were a constant hit from May 2009 to early 2010. The pictures of the transformer toys were available on the internet since late 2008. Other than these toys the transformer games too became popular. These games are widely available on the internet.

You can either play them online or you can even purchase them from the internet. This movie released all over the world in various languages. The name of the movie differed according to the language in which it released.

There were different kinds of characters present in the film. There were autobots, the decepticons, humans and others. The main casts of the movie are optimus prime, bumblebee, skids, the fallen, megatron, soundwave, ravage, Sam witwicky, Mikaela Banes, professor Colan and many more.

Other than this, there were characters called the appliancebots and the seven primes. Lots of people were excited about the revenge of the fallen transformers after they had seen the first film. There were certain critics whose opinion about the movie was not too good.

But still for many viewers it survived as a good action movie. In this movie the autobots, the US army as well as the humans joined hands to get rid of all the decepticons from the earth.

The plot is not very much different from the first movie. In both the movies the good and bad guys fight against each other and the mission is to get rid of the enemies. They are actually fighting for some power which will help them rule the world.

The characters used in this movie are almost similar to those used in the first movie. The transformer figures too became popular after the movie released. Other than the kids young people too were fond of these figures and the transformer toys. The film even had certain errors which were pointed out by the critics.

Great Birthday Gifts For Boys

Boys can be tough to buy for-especially if you already have "every" action figure ever made! Don't buy another video game, just because you can't think of anything else! Consider one of these kid tested ideas for your next "boy" gift:

1. Storage for cars or action figures: Little boy toys like cars and action figures are great for prompting pretend play and role playing-but the small pieces get scattered everywhere. Your house will look better, and your son will be more likely to play with his cars if they are all in the same accessible place. Look for a storage set specifically designed for cars or action figures, or select and decorate a large tackle box.

2. Sports Equipment: This may seem obvious, but a sports set with equipment of the right size (scaled down for little guys, regulation sized for big kids), will keep your child motivated and moving. Consider a basketball hoop, soccer goal, or for the little ones, a t-ball set.

3. Skateboard, skates, or scooter: Depending on his age, one of these fun and functional transport devices is a great addition, and will be sure to encourage physical activity. If you buy one of these items, be sure to supply the proper safety equipment, and explain the rules for use as well.

4. Fishing gear: Supply your son with his own fishing rod and tackle box. Little kids will enjoy using a smaller sized rod featuring their favorite characters. Kid 8 and up can use a standard sized rod. Depending on where you live, you can go fishing, shrimping, or crabbing-the one on one quiet time you will have together is just as important as the catch of the day!

5. Tent or Tunnel: Offer a pop up tent or tunnel, and allow your son to use his imagination. A tent can become a fort, a spacecraft, or even a play house, all in a single day. Look for a tent or tunnel that folds compactly for easy storage.

6. Visit a zoo or museum: Have some one-on-one time with your child at a zoo or museum. If your son is interested in dinosaurs, check out an exhibit, attend a dino-talk, and have lunch at a local museum, and pick up a souvenir at the gift shop as a reminder of the day.

7. Take in a Sports Event: If you have a local major or minor league team, spend a day together at a sports event. If your child has an interest in a particular sport, attending a "real" match or game can be a very inspiring experience for him.

8. Pottery set: You can buy a kit that comes with everything you need to make your own pottery-this very messy activity appeals to boys with an interest in art, and helps foster creativity. Alternatively, provide art materials like paint, paper, and canvas to encourage creativity.

9. Building set: Choose a building set of some type-depending on your child's age, it can be robotic, including moving parts, or a classic "building" toy like plastic or wooden blocks. Either way, make sure you purchase a large set with lots of pieces, and make some space for your "builder" to work.

10. Remote control anything: Boys of all ages-including grown ups, love to play with remote control toys. From helicopters to cars, and airplanes to boats, you can find a fun remote control toy that your son will enjoy.

Gormiti Action Figures - Not the Usual Action Figure

Gormiti Action Figures - Not the usual action figure...

Gormiti Action Figures have recently made a huge impact on my boys. They are not the usual action figures they are used to playing with. They actually enjoy the story line that comes with each figure and look forward to receiving more. Gormiti toys really captured my kids attentions and they sit and play with them for hours at a time. It is very nice to see they have shown interest in other toys other than electronics. The encourage the boys to be creative and use their imagination to play out the scenarios they come up with.

The first time we purchased Gormiti Action Figures I was a bit concerned they would throw them in a box along with the rest of the toys after a day or so. But they haven't. The unique characters and the story that describes each one has captured their attention in a way I never imagined. They love to pretend to save this one or capture that one. It is truly amazing to watch them play. Each of my boys has their own set. I try to keep them different so they know which belongs to who. The fact that they have such a huge variety makes it even easier.

The quality of these toys is also another thing to talk about. The price and quality are great! My kids come up with some very interesting battles and they have all survived intact. So I know they will last as long as they want to keep playing with them. I have enjoyed very much watching them interact with each other while they play with the Gormiti Action Figures. It is nice to see something they have in common and that actually gets them to play together and not just sitting in front of a television set.

The fact that they been able to collect a great variety of these action figures makes it so they have more to choose from. Its not just the same 5 or 6 figures. The collection keeps getting bigger as the possibilities of their imagination. I do recommend these toys to an parent that wants their child to play with something other than video games. They are different and come in a variety of sizes. I prefer the larger ones but the boys to have a few of the miniature figures they keep for what they call cool decorations.

Ben 10 Omnitrix Watches - The Differences Every Parent Needs to Know

Picture yourself excitedly ordering presents for your Ben 10 fan's birthday. You have a list of his hopes and dreams, one of which is the Ben 10 Omnitrix watch. You search online and find there are at least four different versions. Oh no, which one should you choose? Presumably your Ben 10 fan had one in mind but you want to get the best, most appropriate one right? So here's a little help ...

Alien Force Ultimate Omnitrix (4 Stars)

Looking just like Ben's brand new evolved Omnitrix from the new TV series, the Alien Force Ultimate Omnitrix features lights, cool sound effects and alien voices. Kids will love acting out action-packed alien games with their own real-life Omnitrix - the perfect roleplay accessory for boys! Attach the mini transparent figures from the 10cm Alien Collection Figures (sold separately) to the face of the watch to unlock the aliens' light and sound effects! The Omnitrix includes a cool transparent Swampfire figure to get the action started!

This Omnitrix from the new Ben 10 Alien Force range should have rocked our childrens' worlds. It will no doubt be a must have for any Ben 10 fan addicted to role play fun but it is not quite as good as it could have been. The accuracy to the watch in the new show is fantastic. You attach the mini translucent alien figures to the top of the watch to activate each alien. This reveals the alien's voice and name, like on the show, and is super cool. The strap is an improvement over that on the Omnitrix F/X but is not as good as on the Deluxe Omnitrix. It can be hard to get on until you get the hang of it and sometimes has trouble staying snapped shut.

To get more than the one free mini alien figure you need to buy the 10cm Alien Collection Figures. However, the full alien range is not yet available which may cause disappointment. The Ultimate Omnitrix does have lights and sounds without any alien figures attached but your Ben 10 fan is likely to want more than the one alien that comes with it ... you've been warned!

The Ultimate Omnitrix can be a little more glitchy than other Ben 10 toys. The face can be reluctant to stay completely down and the alien figures can get stuck after a few times of clicking onto the top of the watch. The alien figures can also be hard to put on and take off but it does hold up to rough play like the other toys in the range.

Overall this new Omnitrix is a good solid toy and will be money well spent to keep an avid Ben 10 fan's collection up to date.

Deluxe Omnitrix (5 Stars)

The Ben 10 Deluxe Omnitrix is packed with power: lights, sounds and a LCD screen featuring full screen aliens make this the most powerful Omnitrix in the collection. With each click of the dial another alien appears on the LCD screen. Be ready - when Vilgax attacks, your Ben 10 fan has just seconds to choose the correct alien for the job. It's a race against the timer to defeat evil and collect some bonus points!

Fantastic, entertaining and robust. It will send the imagination into overdrive. If you want to keep your Ben 10 fan busy using their imagination for play then this is the toy for you.

Build wise the quality is higher than that of its predecessor the Omnitrix F/X. The thick fabric strap fastens with velcro so is easy for a young child to put on and off. The main watch part is made of chunky plastic and comprises a black and white LCD screen. It can be quite large on the child's wrist and is larger than the F/X.

There are three playing modes. Battle mode sees Ben 10 running around until a villain approaches at which point the Omnitrix sounds an alarm to alert you. At the bottom of the screen you are then told which alien to choose and you are timed as you dial through the aliens until you find the correct one. When you hit the watch to select the winning alien you see them fighting the villain and then you find out if you won the battle. Normal mode allows you to select the alien by turning the dial and hitting the watch. You get to hear the Ben 10 sounds and are shown a few images of your chosen alien. Status mode shows statistics for battles won and lost and includes set up options such as sound.

For Ben 10 mad children under 5 years old the Deluxe Omnitrix presents a few obstacles. Battle mode is not suitable for children who cannot read yet as they will not know which alien they need to choose to fight the battle. Also moving between modes may take time for them to get used to as they are likely to get lost trying to get to where they want to be. But after a week or so for a persistent fan they will work it out.

For the older child more used to gaming consoles the play and the graphics may be a bit weak but for those children who love role play and want to imagine themselves as Ben 10 this is a must have piece of kit.

Omnitrix F/X (2 Stars)

The Omnitrix F/X provides a good role play experience with its flashing red and green lights and transformation sound effects taken directly from the TV series. Turn the dial to choose between the 10 aliens and see them in silhouette on the face of the Omnitrix which is backlit for an easier view.

The Omnitrix F/X is a great stimulus for the imagination. It is well made and withstands the usual dropping and wall bashing dished out by children. Although seemingly pricey for a plastic strap, turning dial and red and green lights, the daily use it is likely to get means you will see value for your money. The sounds are authentic and children seem excited about hitting the dial before they "transform". It is perhaps more suitable for Ben 10 mad children under 5 years old as there is no gaming for them to contend with. In fact it does little more than make noises, flash lights and display alien pictures on the dial so you would expect it to be a lot less expensive than the deluxe version but you will be sadly disappointed. Comfort wise the F/X is also lacking with its plastic strap which can be difficult for young ones to strap on and can be a little big for the smaller wrist.

Omnitrix Alien Viewer (1 Star)

The Omnitrix Alien Viewer allows you to view cool scenes from the TV series and watch Ben transform into different aliens by inserting one of the various disks available - three of which are included. Other disks are available with the 10cm Ben 10 Collectible Action Figures (sold separately). Each disk features 8 animation cells showing Ben's transformation into an alien. The viewing aperture is 1cm in diameter. It is true to scale for realistic role play.

The Omnitrix Alien Viewer could be a nice little addition to your child's Ben 10 toy collection. If he collects the 10cm Ben 10 Collectible Action Figures he will soon have a great collection of the disks that are included with these toys enabling him to watch Ben in more and more guises. But beware it is not just a smaller version of the other Omnitrix. It has no lights or sound and so to an excited child it seems to do nothing at all other than look like an Omnitrix when worn, although this alone does encourage imagination. Viewing the aliens is also not ideal as there is no back light. You need to point the viewer at a strong light source and get the angle just right to see anything and then the images are tiny. Changing the disks can be fiddly and the disk storage is limited. Knowing young boys keeping track of these small parts is not going to be their top priority. If the disks are lost the Omnitrix becomes pointless.

Conclusion

The choice is tough - the Alien Force Ultimate Omnitrix is more up to date to the current TV show and its aliens but the Deluxe Omnitrix offers some video game style play as well as the role play experience. Which you choose should probably be determined by the age of your Ben 10 fan.

What Are Some of The Most Wanted Toys This Christmas?

Something I get asked a lot is 'What's going to be the next big thing?' You see, writing for popular culture blogs, a national magazine, websites and all that other good stuff, it is often expected that I'll know everything about every trend around the corner. I don't, but I can certainly steer you in the right direction. The festive season brings all manner of difficulties; Turkeys that won't defrost quickly enough, where all the batteries went, who keeps prodding Grandma while she's sleeping, why does Dad keep bringing up the same old argument after dinner? That sort of thing. Through all this, the kids are more interested in their new toys than their family members, and really, I can't blame them.

But making sure you get the right things for them can be an uphill struggle. I know this, you know this, and even your drunken father, who can't keep his paper hat on straight, knows it too. This year there are some very impressive toys on the market, and to help you beat the hassles of the season a little, I've listed twelve of the best toys for Christmas 2008 for you. Transformer Toys and Action Figures

A durable Hasbro brand since 1984, Transformers action figures and toys have endured through both economic climate and the ever-changing tastes and consistently shifting trends in the toy manufacturing and design industry.

With trademarked items stemming from the original Saturday morning cartoon originally airing back in the 1980's; to the now famous block buster movies, the Transformer brand sits steady and strong. Popular toys inspire boys and girls alike to create and change their Transformer action figures from the ever-protective Bumblebee, to the determined but often thwarted Megatron and his band of invading Decepticon rebels into their more benign car, truck or plane counterparts.

With soaring ticket sales at the box office as the release of the movies, Transformers and Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, takes the Transformers action figures into the popular eye again, the resurgence of the Transformer characters has taken full seasonal hold. The Bumblebee character, as transformed into his counterpart, a classic yellow with black pinstripe Camaro, is one of Hasbro's best selling Transformer action figures and one of the most popular characters in both movies. With fun Bumblebee action figures as well as a related line of toys based on the Bumblebee Transformer, this particular character will prove to hold a timeless appeal to children and collectors alike.

The Transformers Bumblebee Helmet which hits the markets just in time for Christmas this year comes with advanced voice changing technology. This fun and exciting addition to the usual helmet type role playing toy affords the child the opportunity to fully enjoy the look and feel of the Bumblebee character. With six different music modes, the Transformers Voice Changer Helmet and its voice mixing technology brings the Bumblebee character to a larger than life reality. Your child will enjoy the pre-set Bumblebee sayings like, "Your mission: Protect the world from evil" and "Bumblebee to the rescue!" along with many other phrases right from the famous movies.

Comfortably and snuggly sized with the use of a convenient and adjustable chin strap, the child sized Transformers Bumblebee Helmet will provide any child hours of character role playing fun. Made of a durable and light weight plastic, the Transformer Voice Changer helmet is light and easy to wear offering the child a fun alternative to other heavier and more cumbersome costume type role playing toys. Designed and decorated directly from the look of the movie character, the Bumblebee Voice Changer Helmet takes the child right into the fun and exciting pretend world of the Transformers.

The Transformer toys and action figures featuring popular characters from the Transformer movies and the long standing television cartoon series offer children endless hours of enjoyable pretend play. With Transformer action figure accessories such as the Transformers arm blasters, Bumblebee plasma cannon and for the even younger Transformer fan, the Mr. Potato Head Optimash Prime accessory kit, the Transformer brand of action figure toy is as popular as ever.

Toy Manufacturing - a truly international enterprise

Children are fascinating toys and spend hours of fun to play with them, and parents love them. Adult or child, with barely a thought, much as the toy was manufactured in. Parents know that his son happy toy standards produced the highest and leave it while the children the knowledge to make the toy is usually limited to gentle toymaker Geppetto, Pinocchio's father. But the real story of howThe toys of today are built as fascinating.

Like all other manufacturing industries, the toy industry, the economy has undergone profound changes over the last 30 years due to a massive global increase. Mass production in Italy and much of the rest of Europe has all but ceased. Today, the components of a single product can be made differently in different countries - with China, fast becoming a major player in the international toy stores.

L 'Toys - no matter how traditional - from the planning stage. Both in-house designers are employed or appointed a team of outside professionals. Computer and mechanical construction are often used first prototype training. The toy company, also the subject of this review, printing, production, analysis, and finally to full production.

When it comes to components or the toyYes, but the process is almost always entrusted to a third party.

A very wide range of raw materials used in toys - wood, textiles, plastics, resins, paper and cardboard, metal, zinc alloy and electronic components.

The manufacturing process is in itself rather than the type of toys made. Dolls and action figures are usually made in plastic, and toy cars and trains tendbe of cast metal and sprayed by hand or after. Components for self-assembly kit and table games require a professional printer, while the dolls and stuffed animals almost always hand-sewn and filled. Many toy manufacturers to buy components from a manufacturer and then assemble the finished product in another institution.

Today the focus is on traditional toys made from high quality materials, durable, traditional. The vast majorityof traditional toys, plastics are made of wood, metals, fabrics and environmentally friendly and built to meet - and in many cases exceeding - international standards of quality and safety.

In an increasingly globalized economy, it is important to combine a great value, great quality and a number of toy manufacturers are able to do alone.

What is an action figure?

The action figure is very different from modern traditional figure of my childhood memories as. At that time we had two basic types, GI Joe and Action Man

But if you look today after day there are thousands of different "action figures" are available. There are characters in movies, Wrestling Figures, Anime, Cartoons, TV, pop stars and Playboy characters have a number of collectors' action babe "(pleasewho are not puppets ;-)) are.

It seems that in the last 20-30 years, '"hobby" has grown with us, the first generation of children who have "played the original" action figures.

The Early Days

Do you remember as a child he spent happy moments locked in a room with your GI Joe action or your bedroom? Suddenly, your rivers, and was converted into a different world, a world of big mountain terrain, deserts,Mari.

His bed was suddenly a huge impassable mountain range are ideal for snipers looking for a train sequence of the Germans. Drawers and cabinets were forts, watchtowers, or high mountain.

Mats and rugs were seas, rivers, lakes or deserts. A land of danger, intrigue and mystery. Maybe they were lost behind enemy lines, trying desperately to find a way home. Or have you had a secret mission to the plans for a new enemy to steal secretsdesigned.Or had to save captured pilots who had fallen from its level ditch behind enemy lines.

No matter what situation I was against them.

Of course, I want to tell your GI JOE.

And you would feel would have happily lost in your world.

That is until suddenly the shrill scream in my ears would ring.

Summoning are back to reality.

And they would be reluctant trudge down the stairs to your world, torn from your exploitsfor ....

Dinner!

The first GI Joe

The first action figure, GI Joe was introduced in 1964 by Hasbro.

The term "action figure" was coined a clever piece of marketing for "new" doll for boys marketable.

Finally, he played with a doll?

No way. Dolls are for girls.

But football action figure ass?

Sure.

The GI Joe became an instant success and proved a success in the U.S. andclear early on that it is waiting for a huge market of reference used for this new doll and has been in other companies to open new markets and licenses to ensure its global popularity and place in history books Hasbro.

These first GI Joes were easy enough, but they were poseable. The arms and legs were held together with elastic and could move his arms, legs and head, may change their uniforms and apparel easy. The local toy storehad racks of accessories for GI Joe and food rations to more than a tank, and all types of uniforms and weapons. Want your stash of money for months to buy the newest and latest accessories for your figure.

I saved for months for my first tank.

Remember, if the introduction of "real hair"?

And then there was the 'eagle eye "that moves!

But best of all was when he brought the man to talk with action.

Wow, it was timeAllow to cool.

Hasbro has been many attempts to introduce non-military figures, but they never really took.

There were football, cricket and rugby World Cup in England published figures and numbers.

The GI Joe and Action Man was the standard "boy doll or action figure for many years and remained popular with the children until the mid-seventies and are still popular now, though (unfortunately) who have been through some politiciansAccuracy. These above figures are now some are very popular among collectors, especially the non-military figures, their lack of popularity is due only in small quantities produced, can be useful if a lot of money especially in good condition.

Over the decades, unfortunately, his image was to meet the needs of today and regulations tonic and as a result of their military background and is now part of a bygone era. the figure now is a marriednew man, who had more "politically correct" to a wider audience to raise.

The beginnings of the hobby

The advent of Star Wars, a decade later found, but in reality the market by storm.

Until then, action figures change was practically limited to the pre-teen boy market, but all they had. With the huge success of Star Wars action figure familiar with the movie based on their shelves flew as fast asShopping could fill. As a result, the experts could not compete with the massive demand, as a complete surprise, given that no one had expected the film to the great success and has not been used for this never seen before came to be.

This has led to a shortage of characters and began to run low, especially Darth Vader and Han Solo figures. As the demand grew and showed no signs of slowing down their value rocket began as a secondary market forexploded. This is especially true for data on low-cost production of specialty markets which were for promotional purposes o.

And so the market is the action figure for collectors is born.

Later, in 1980 as the growing popularity of Japanese manga and anime characters, especially the Transformers, my hobby has become more mainstream, and new businesses catering for the increasingly popular hobby began to appear aimed at the collectors' market. Some ofStar Wars can now exceed hundreds or even thousands of $ $ 's at an auction.

The collectors' market today is with most movies, TV shows, cartoons, sports and pop stars, even with a series of action figures made of solid character based on his own. One of the most popular of these companies over the past ten years, McFarlane Toys, a company founded by comic book creator Todd McFarlane's Spawn character.

McFarlane's havecarve a reputation for excellent quality and attention to detail the rules by which other companies will now be assessed figure.

The range of numbers now is something Unlimited from The Lord of the Rings Figures WWE Wrestling Figures produced. In fact, in Hollywood, it was not the most famous or a "Super Star" unless you had a figure.

Who is responsible for protecting children from unsafe toys?

Many parents are outraged by the recent spate of toy recalls. dolls, action figures, ride-on toys, teethers have been recalled too. lead paint, magnets that separate chemicals in plastic that are unsafe ... It seems that every day there is a new recall.

Outside of returning the toys and get a refund, what can parents do a? Who is responsible for the safety of toys? E 'enough to buy toys dealers trust? Or is thereIn addition, parents can do to ensure that their children are not victims of unsafe toys?

Eventually, of course, we as parents are responsible for our children safe. It is unrealistic to believe that all toys for safety can be proven, or that all so-called safe toy for each child in a safe manner.

It 's so important to ensure that toys are age appropriate and children just for the state of our development. And 'our duty as parents make our own decisionsbuy games based on the feel of what is right for our children, not what it says on the box or what someone else thinks is appropriate.

So it seems that children's security staff is a shared responsibility between manufacturers, parents and authorities to protect consumers. Toy manufacturers must produce safe toys so that they retain the confidence of buyers that have the greatest parents. At the same time, parents have to police their childrenToys stay updated on the latest information and check the points safe toys often.

If there is a recall, it is important that parents not allow their children to find and dispose of the toys recalled. You could not understand the children, the severity of lead paint of magnets, the brother of ingestion may be younger . It could be very appropriate toys are recalled and not be ready to discard it or give it to her parents.

Parents should bring all the toys in the house every now and then, just to make sure that toys are not broken or chipped paint or sharp developed to go. It 's easier to keep the toys when the children are encouraged to have a place for everything "rather than just to throw all their toys in a big one. Individual baskets for each type of toy make it easy to quickly go through them.

The bottom line is that we are all responsible> Safety of toys, but the manufacturers bear the brunt, as they benefit from the toys. They control the factories and the workers and that means that they are the first line of defense against unsafe toys. If there is a memory, the parents are to blame, even if they have relocated their production of toys. They have an obligation to do a better job of protecting children.
