The importance of multi-cultural toys

Gone are the days when all the dolls in the store had very fair skin and blond hair. These days, the toys come in all colors, shapes and sizes. cultural relevance is important in games, such as game time starts to adult life. It 'important to children's toys and exposed to the history of their culture and show "like them". However, it should not be limited, such as toys.

A multi-cultural dolls and Toy Museum Experiencebalanced and healthy. One poor extreme is to expose the child only to dolls from a single culture. If they only see dolls and toys that look like them, they will find it difficult to accept others that look different. They won't mean to distance themselves, but children are more likely to gravitate towards what they know. The other poor extreme is to allow them to play with toys that look totally different from them, without any that do look like them. Self-esteem can be negatively affected that way, especially in young girls.

Let your little girls and boys play with dolls and action figures that represent the multi-cultural world that they live in. Dolls collections like American Girl, Barbie, Bratz, and Cabbage Patch Kids come in many different cultural varieties. There is no reason to stick to just one cultural background when it comes to dolls, action figures, toys, or friends.

Mixing the culture of your child's toys can prepare the for the mix of cultures in society. Even if they don't see all of the different cultures everyday at school, they might notice when they get out into the real world. America is an amazing blend of cultures, religious backgrounds and ethnicities. There are many things to learn about each one, and appearance is just the start. The sooner your child learns that people are unique and special in their own way, the better. Children can learn about other cultures as well as their own.

Keep an open mind about the cultural aspects of the toys that your children play with. Talk to them about race and religion so they are aware and tolerant of others that are not totally like them. Remember that everyone is a human being who deserves equal respect. Play time is a learning experience, so give them the tools that they need to learn as much as they can about the world from the beginning.

Do You Need to Have Your Action Figures Professionally Graded?

Professional Grading

It is because of the problems and unreliability of the C-Scale grading system that the demand for an internationally recognized and accepted grading system grew and led to the explosion in the professional action figure grading services.

Do You Need Professional Grading?

If you plan on selling any of your action figures, particularly any vintage or valuable figures you want to get the best bang for your bucks, so yes you should get them professionally graded. BUT If you are going to pay to have your action figure's condition and authenticity verified by a professional grading service make sure it is a well known, established and respected company that you use.

A Word of Caution... Having your action figure/s professionally graded can be expensive so only get those figures that are either vintage figures or valuable figures professionally graded.

What or Who Are the AFA?

The Action Figure Authority (AFA) was born from a frustration of all the different systems and scales that where being used in the market to grade action figures without any uniformity or standardization. More collectors are beginning to demand that valuable figures are professionally graded before accepting them and more dealers seem to be accepting that a valuable action figure should be professionally authenticated and graded. The AFA is committed to meet or exceed the action figure markets unique requirements while promoting a healthy and fun environment for all. AFA state that their main goals and aims are to:

give the collector the advantage by revealing each action figures true characteristics, thus promoting the healthy growth of sight unseen purchases of action figures.
to gain your trust and respect.
to create a consensus that AFA's grading standard accurately reflects the input of all collectors and dealers.
to promote interest in the collecting of action figures by the safe and enjoyable purchasing of AFA graded figures.

The AFA Grading Scale

The AFA Grading Scale consists of three levels, each with three sub-levels. These are there Gold, Silver and Bronze levels.

AFA Gold The Premium level is the AFA Gold level which consists of the grades 100, 95, and 90.
AFA Silver level The second level is the Silver level which consists of the grades 85, 80, and 75.
AFA Bronze Level The Bronze Level action figure consists of the grades 70, 60, and below. Action Figures that receive these grades typically have damage ranging anywhere from simply noticeable at first glance to extremely significant.

AFA Sub grades

There are three sub grades for AFA Graded action figures which are assigned for the Card, Blister, and the Action Figure. Once the grader has been established the overall grade for your action figure, they will assign individual grades for each of these three categories.

What Defects Will Affect My Action Figures Grade?

Creases, bends or tears.
Price tag marks
Blistering or bubbling
Discoloration
Broken limbs
Yellowing
Bubble or card separation

These are a few of the more common defects or faults found that will affect your action figures value.

Autographed Action Figures

Over the last few years that has been a large increase in the number and variety of action figures available of stars particularly from TV Series, Sports and Music which has resulted in an in figures autographed by the star or character depicted by the action figure. My guess is that with this becoming more and more popular the Professional Grading sites will begin to include autograph verification into there service, however this is an area fraught with dangers and hazards.

How to Host an Out of This World Toy Story Birthday Party

"To infinity and beyond!", if you often hear these words from your child or children, you know exactly what you are about to give them on their birthday parties. Organise yourself a Toy Story themed party and treat your child and friends for some out of this world fun! Here's how you will do it...

Making Your Party Invitations

If your child's favorite character is Buzz Lightyear, make a colorful spaceship-inspired invitation out of a high-quality cardstock. An invitation shaped like a cowboy hat is a perfect match for the cowboy character Woody. If you want to have a general Toy Story party theme, a toy box with the toy characters placed on the top along with a picture of your child is a brilliant idea.

Decorating The Party

Your party decorations must comprise the colors that can be associated with Toy Story, such as lime or neon green, orange, turquoise, and purple. Make sure that your paper streamers and balloons carry these kind of colors. Posting movie posters on your wall helps enhance the Toy Story atmosphere. You may order them online or create your own out of printed photos taken from the scenes in the movie. You may also try putting stuff toys or kiddie action figures all over the place. Character cardboard cutouts are excellent alternatives as well.

Setting-Up The Party Attire

Invite kids to come wearing their favourite Toy Story character along with the toy itself. Allow them to dress up in whatever style they want for as long as it has close resemblance to the favourite toy they got in hand. Announce that it will be a contest to add more interest to the party. Award the best dressed kid or the one with the most realistic outfit with a toy or small prize!

Organising The Party Games And Activities

Set-up a box of toys and a corresponding area for the kids to play. You may organise a game out of it, such as having a car race using the provided toy cars or putting up a puppet show for them to interact with.

Try playing a "Space Treasure Hunt" game. This is recommended when many of the kids are Buzz Lightyear fans. You may organise this game either outside or inside of the party venue. Set up the mood of the children by telling them that they are going on a space mission. Then tell them to find items that Buzz left behind in his past space expedition. These items may compose of candies, paper plates, toys and other good stuff.

The "Balloon Float" is also a great game. Begin by blowing up some balloons with pictures and names of characters pasted over them. Let the kids gather in one area and toss them into the air, what the kids need to do is to prevent the balloons from hitting the ground.

"Robot Freeze Tag" on the other hand is a game played outside. At first, there should be a "robot maker" wherein whoever he/she tags becomes a robot and must freeze. The robots can however be unfreeze when other players touch them. The player who became a robot for 3 times will be the next designated "robot maker".

At the end of the exciting games, excite them once more by showing a Toy Story movie, complete with popcorn and other tasty goodies.

Now armed with the knowledge, your child's upcoming party will never go dull!

Collecting Action Figures - What's Behind This Modern Day Craze

Remember when you were a kid and your mom, dad, uncle, aunt or grandparent would take you to the toy store or some other leading big-box department store. As you rush towards the action figure aisle, your heart speeding in fervour as you make your means to this supernatural toy of imaginativeness.

Now a lot of men still might purchase an action figure or two sporadically. Action figures today have become so detailed, so artistic and so coveted. These so-called "toys" remind us of our freewheeling youth. I personally have purchased around 16 action figures in the past year.

Athlete Action Figures

What I'm really into, just like so many other grown men, are action figures associated to professional athletes. The detail in some of these pieces of new art are spectacular. They have a team jersey down to every tone of color. Currently manufacturers of action figures actually make licencing arrangements with companies who sponsor a specific athlete and professional sports teams. These are reflected in some action figures as well. I am a massive professional ice hockey fan, and really am a great fan of Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin has an endorsement deal with CCM, wearing a CCM helmet, gloves, hockey pants and skates. The Ovechkin doll that I have has all the logos in place just like the real Alexander Ovechkin when he takes the ice in the Verizon Center.

Sci-Fi Action Figures

With the revitalization of sci-fi films and television, sci-fi action figures have also been best-selling. This movement started out with the successful Star Wars franchise films. These love affairs with the figures were rekindled when the original trilogy and the new prequel trilogy were released about a decade ago.

Original action figures were produced in celebration of these films. However this time the dolls were made with such detail and preciseness, it made accumulating these figures by grownups much more acceptable than in the past. The original marketplace for these toys were youngsters, nonetheless this higher level of detail can only be prized by the eye of an adult. This tendency retains today with other sci-fi characters of today's pop culture.

Todd McFarlane Toys

Comic book creator Todd McFarlane has created a toy company that was really at the forefront of this new breed of action figure explosion. Being an artist of sci-fi and comic books he understood the detail that can be crammed into these action figures.

Collecting Action Figures

When garnering action figures, you should collect as if they are fine pieces of art. You must not collect for investment purposes rather than for the admiration of these works of art. If you like what you see, then buy. Even if you do not go up in value, you can still enjoy the aesthetics of form for your action. If you ever wanted to collect as an investment opportunity then there are some things you should know.

When a new movie or TV series premiere, especially if the project is a Sci-Fi-based, then chances are action figures will be producedin alignment with the premiere of these motion pictures or television series. If this is the case, eBay has hundreds of vendors who deal these investment objects before the film or series premieres. Normally the price for these items will be modest and are fitting for purchase.

After the sci-fi movie or series is premiered, usually the cost of these action figures will rise. Especially if the film becomes an unanticipated commercial success. This is great because once the motion picture is popular there will be more need for their affiliated action figures however supply will already have been dried up. This is where, you as a collector or investor can turn a profit big time. Merely trade your action figure back on eBay. It's that easy. I've been doing it for quite a while, with what I regard pieces of artistic creation that I no longer love or treasure any longer.

Wishing you the very best in your action figure investment opportunities and this incomparable form of art collecting.

When you read through to the end of this article, you'll learn just why this toy - particularly the Toy Story 12" Talking Buzz Lightyear - is so wildly popular, and where you can find one in stock now for a great price.

Why are Buzz action figures in such demand?

Think back to when you first saw the movie - Toy Story. Remember immediately feeling a sense of kinship with the toy characters, like Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head and the green army men, which were already well known and beloved friends from everyone's childhood? These toys spanned the generations who watched this movie and it felt wonderful to see them again. Ah, the memories!

Then, with great anticipation of movie toys and audience both, Andy opens his birthday present - and we all got a new toy! Buzz was a sensation and became an immediate classic, even though the Buzz we saw on screen was really only an animator's dream - albeit a really clever, imaginative, humorous, and creative one.

There was actually no toy that could do what Buzz Lightyear did 15 years ago when he starred in his first movie. Until now, with the creation of the Toy Story 12" Talking Buzz Lightyear. This is one amazing toy!

This is the real deal - the real Buzz Lightyear come to life. So accurately recreated in the image of Buzz of 'Toy Story' movie fame that you might think you reached out in a theater somewhere and plucked him right off of the screen.

This is an incredible replica of the Buzz Lightyear that every kid who ever saw a Toy Story Movie ever wanted - perfect down to the last detail. Even the back of the box matches the back of the box from the movie!
In space ranger mode this Buzz is intelligent and interactive - he listens to you, responds appropriately and even knows if you are shouting - and says up to 65 phrases.
He is completely movie stance pose-able and joints are all high quality.

There are lots of Buzz Lightyear toys on the market in price ranges for all budgets, but as one reviewer said, this is just Buzz. If you are a collector or the same Buzz Light year toys that Andy has presented us with his birthday, many years ago that the buzz you're actually looking for!

There are many stores online toy Buzz Light year. The best deals that include free shipping, and if you need to return or exchange your Action Figure - the return is also free.

What you need to know is how these toys or watch the large number of suppliers that sell these topics. It will naturally want to know how what is the overall best offer for the vote. It could be a very long time tosearch through all of the sites for all of this information. A better idea is find someone who is experienced in finding deals and savings and see what they have found.

A Look at the Best Selling Christmas Toys Over the Years

Take a few moments away from frantically trying to find this year's hottest Christmas toys to reminisce about the best selling Christmas toys from previous years. Every year there is a hot new must have toy on every child's Christmas list and 2010 is no exception. Just as with this year, if there was a hit movie in a particular year, then the best sellers for the Christmas season probably were more on the side of action figures, VHS or DVDs, and soundtrack albums for that particular movie. For 2010, the big ones are Toy Story 3, Iron Man 2 and Transformers 2 but think back to 2004 when the Incredibles was the top Disney hit and Incredibles themed toys were a top feature in the toy market. Or think back to 1995 when Buzz Lightyear and our favourite cowboy, Woody first made an appearance on the big screen and their action figures subsequently made an appearance in our children's toy collections.

No matter what the best selling Christmas toys were in any particular year, it's safe to say that they were enjoyed by children from all over, and are now recorded in history for everyone to reflect on for years to come.

Two decades ago, the hottest Christmas toys were based on a gang of crime fighting turtles, the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. These cartoon favorites were released to stores as four individual figurines, and dubbed the "heroes in a half-shell", each equipped with kung fu skills to help them fight their way through the underground sewers of New York City and right into the homes and hearts of young UK children.

Do you remember POGS? A collection of decorated disks, meant to be collected, traded, and flipped by young children, and is loosely based off of an even older game, tiddlywinks. How about Tamagotchis? Those little electronic pets were all the rage in the late 90s. The POGS and Tamagotchi fad quickly faded though and it seems kids have become more high tech and you're more likely to find something like a Nintendo DSi or a Nintendo Wii on your child's Christmas gift list in 2010.

This year, the best selling Christmas toys aren't electronic pets or turtle action figures. Times have changed and so have the expectations of the toy loving children. For 2010 the hottest Christmas toys are predicted to be video game consoles as well as games and toys based on this year's hit movies such as Toy Story 3 or popular Disney shows like Camp Rock and Hannah Montana.

Ben 10 Toys - 10 Things Every Parent Needs to Know

"Ben 10 is without doubt the hottest boys' brand of the moment". The Ben 10 10cm and 15cm Action Figures were selected as the "2009 Toy Of The Year" and the Ben 10 brand also scooped the "Boys' Range Of The Year". So what are Ben 10 toys all about and are they worth buying?

1. What are Ben 10 Toys?

Ben 10 is the superhero from the Cartoon Network show of the same name. Young fans all over the world are going wild for the merchandise relating to their hero and he now has his own toy range. The watch like object called the Omnitrix gives Ben his super powers and is central to the toy range. It allows him to transform into 10+ different superhero aliens, who form the action figure toys available.

Ben 10: Alien Force is the sequel to the original show. The trusty Omnitrix has evolved, resulting in new aliens to transform into. The toy range has been updated accordingly with a new Ultimate Omnitrix and new alien action figures.

2. For what age group are Ben 10 Toys suitable?

The range is primarily aimed at boys aged 4 to 12.

3. Are Ben 10 Toys any good?

Ben 10 toys are exciting, good value toys that entertain and inspire creativity. They are realistic to the cartoon, well detailed and well made. In this time of financial crisis it is all about trusted brands and the makers of the Ben 10 range, Bandai, are the world's third largest producer of toys. If you are looking for high quality, durable, multi-purpose toys that can be played with in different ways - Ben 10 delivers.

4. How much do Ben 10 Toys cost?

You can get some good action figures starting from about £5.

The best 'Omnitrix' watches cost between £15 and £20.

The new Alien Force creature vehicles cost about £15.

The video games start at about £15 depending on platform.

You can find a nice selection of books for around £3.

You could perform a great Ben 10 bedroom make-over for around £60, to include curtains, a duvet cover & pillowcase, wall stickers and a lightshade.

5. Which is the best Ben 10 Toy?

The must have toys for any Ben 10 fan are an Omnitrix and some action figures.

The Omnitrix comes in many different versions so beware of the cheaper forms that are less playable. The two best Omnitrix watches are the Deluxe Omnitrix and the new Alien Force Ultimate Omnitrix. They are realistic to the cartoon series and are ideal for superhero role play.

The best value for money in action figures are the 10cm versions as they are poseable, well detailed and hard wearing but also cheap enough to buy a few.  Ensure you are buying the 'right' alien though as your Ben 10 fan will undoubtedly have their favourites. Take advantage of multi figure packs to get your Ben 10 fan's collection started. The Creation Chamber figures also offer great creative play allowing children to mix things up and make new Ben 10 aliens.

If you don't mind shoot-em up games, the Ben 10 video games are great. They are fairly easy to play, challenging but not too much so. There's great sound and story line and you have to solve problems. The best bits for young Ben 10 fans are:

another player can join or leave and help at any point in the game; and
you start from where you run out of life so you don't have to go back to the beginning of a level.

6. Which is the worst Ben 10 Toy?

The playsets are typically expensive, cumbersome and have too many parts that get lost. Generally they also require you to buy the rest of the product range to use with it, so are often not worth the money. The adverts and the packaging are always very tempting but once the box is opened and the first play frenzy is over, disappointment sets in.

The cheapest versions of the Omnitrix (the Omnitrix FX and the Alien Viewer) have limited appeal. Check out my other article "Ben 10 Omnitrix Watches - The Differences Every Parent Needs To Know" for more detailed information.

With the action figures you need to avoid the smallest and the largest.  The Transforming Alien Rocks or figures from Planetary Powder sets are tiny, mono-coloured and badly detailed. At the other end of the scale, the 30cm Epic Alien Figures are not poseable and made of inferior quality plastic.

7. What toys and merchandise does the Ben 10 Toy range include?

As well as the Omnitrix and Action Figures, the Ben 10 range includes:

games and puzzles;
vehicles;
playsets;
DVDs;
video games;
clothes & shoes;
school equipment;
dressing up costumes;
arts & crafts;
sports equipment;
furniture;
party supplies;
bedroom accessories;
books.

8. What educational value does the Ben 10 Toy range provide?

The toys encourage imaginative play with your child starting as Ben 10, meeting a villain and then transforming into one of the hero aliens simply by switching toys. They also help develop moral reasoning by identifying the good from the bad characters. When used to interact with other children, they will engage in cooperative and dramatic play.

9. Which toy should I buy for a child that has most of the Ben 10 Toy range already?

Take a look at some of the sports equipment, such as the skateboard or the scooter.

10. Where can I buy Ben 10 Toys online?

Everywhere! Ben 10 is so popular you can find the

Why Some Toys Are Popular Every Year

During the pre-Internet days, a generation of kids grew up honing their imaginative skills through action figures and other traditional toys. You may have thought about the demise of the toy industry after the explosion of LAN and online games but the resurgence of character toys popularity proved you wrong. In fact almost every year, there are certain types of toys that become instant hits in the toy-buying market.

Well, you really do not have to analyze market statistics to be aware of this annual phenomenon. All you need is to take a look at your child's growing collection of animated flick-inspired action-figures in his or her bedroom. How many times have your kids begged you to buy certain meal-combos from popular fast food chains? You also know very well that it is not that 100% juicy beef on the burgers that they are after. They want something that would last longer than that. If those happy meal combos or whatever you call them these days promise to satisfy their cravings, character toys help kids fuel their imagination.

The popularity of specific toy collections owe it on clever marketing campaigns in the form of cartoon shows, animated films, DVD collections, sponsorships, tie-ups and many other types of promotional techniques. As a matter of fact, there are certain toys that become highly popular every year due to the latest animated films featuring various characters. To kids, it is all about their familiarity with these action-figures. They tend to patronize characters that they can relate to. Young girls love Barbie Dolls not only because they are cute. They fantasize that the dolls themselves are the extension of their personalities. The makers of Barbie dolls knew this very well this is the reason why they even launched a cartoon TV series featuring their toys.

Nowadays, adults have been used to the dizzying phase that some fast food companies change their ads. These ads feature character toys that are in season. For kids, the desire to own these toys while enjoying a delicious meal or drinking certain beverages is everything. We may knot our brows sometimes because we feel that their desire to own certain stuff is getting out of hand. However, it is not healthy to deny them their right as kids to hone their creativity and imaginative skills through toys. In the age of various digitally-enhanced diversions, traditional character toys are still very much significant.

New Toys Bring the great sales for the toy company

What are all the new toys coming out you may ask? Well I want to share a couple of them with you for the season. You may have already heard of Webkinz and the new releases they are coming out with and you may know about the TMX Friends coming this fall but, do you know what Shining Stars By Russ are or transformers action figures for this summers latest block buster movie?

Well the people over at Ganz sure have it down and must have learned from past companies. Producing not nearly enough Webkinz to go around the world in their first couple installments created such a buzz and demand around the internet and retail stores that the world was buying and is buying Webkinz online at whatever premium price they can find. Some of the first Webkinz produced like Cheeky Cat and Cheeky Dog are going for hundreds of dollars each and are a rare and hard to find plush. Meanwhile the hype has continued with the release of the next wave a Webkinz Plush such as the the Beagle, Clydesdale, Spotted Frog and in the fall Halloween black cat, Siberian Husky and in the winter the Reindeer. Shortly in February of 2008 the Love Frog will release will will again stimulate the Webkinz market. Ganz has a pretty good plan to keep the hype built and strong.

Russ Shining Stars are not big right now but they could be. Shining Stars are plush pets much like Webkinz. Like Webkinz they have games online for kids and adults to play and they come with a online code just like Webkinz. However one unique difference between Webkinz and Russ Shining Stars is that with Shining Stars has Team with the International Star Registry and give children the ability to register and name an actual star in the solar system. After the naming of their very own unique star they can then print out a star map that shows the exact location of their star in the galaxy with the Stars brand new name. Webkinz is in full control right now but soon some competition could arise from Russ Shining Stars.

Transformers action figures are out now and will soon be growing in popularity by riding the waves of the new animated movie in the summer of 2007. The movie is sure to be a huge success and will cause an enormous Transformers action figure Resurrection. The main character Optimus Prime action figures are already starting to rise in popularity and boys everywhere will soon be sporting the Transformers toys again.

With all the great toys coming out this year kids will not be bored. Somewhere between Webkinz, Transformers, GI Joe 25th anniversary, Russ Shining Stars, TMX Friends (Ernie and Cookie Monster), they may have time for your attention. The year is will not be boring for kids or toy makers and could prove to be quite expensive for parents everywhere. Toy companies will continue throughout the year trying to find new improved ways of allowing parents to spend more money. Lets just hope we can buy more than just a few toys for Christmas.

Transformers Toys - Get a Toy Collection Online

Remember Transformers? If yes then you possibly grew up with them. If you remember the Transformers animation series I am prepared to bet you never forgot about the Transformer Toys and might even had toys collection!

The line of Transformers Toys is a long one stretching back before plenty of the newer generation were even born - back in the 1980's up to the present.Giant hunks of plastic with hardly any joint movement are basically what these things were. During the Christmas season were the boys had to have all the toys.

Since the decision used die-cast construction on action figures, they began to become more complex. In essence liquid iron design poured into a mold and cooled die. The parts produced by this process are extremely robust, although somewhat limited in movement.

came as the plastic to metal, construction cast as the privileged system of production to replace faded. New methodsauthorized for stronger plastics to be made. New joint types also authorized complete range of movement.

So being able to pose a transforming robot in several alternative positions was a true joy for many youngsters. When the series Beast Wars Transformers was a hit, the standard of the figures was a huge leap forward from what we already were used to. They used ball and socket joints like our own, and may be moved in nearly any direction.

The latest toys to grab our attention though are the ones from the live action movies. Most especially from the Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen movie. With finer detail and more complex transformations they are truly a site to behold. Most of us don't abuse our action figures in the 1st place. But a little fall is certain to occur at last ; luckily they are sturdy.

So now, please click here [http://www.besttransformers2store.com/] to find where and how we can acquire our own Transformers Toys action figures and toy collection online in best deals and discounts.

The growing culture of action figures

Action figures are not just for kids anymore. At one point it was thought that a fantasy action figure was only good, much to the relief of a child, fortunately, people have recognized that children and adults a lot of joy to collect and play with them. However, there is a dichotomy between ', in action figure form what, what the population. For example, adults can enjoy the hobby aspect of the collector, while the childrenwill appreciate the playability of the numbers.

When it comes to understanding an assessment of the value of an action packed pristine, like new toys, the box opens up more money as a surrender. However, there is little value in play and fun for a child if the toy does not break with his plastic prison. For this reason, some collectors buy two copies of each issue, although as a hobby can be expensive when it comes to toys, many ofavailable.

Ninja Turtles, GI Joe, Batman, Superman and Star Wars figures continue to be the most popular for collectors. Many of the figures give a vintage resale value of 100-200 dollars. Modern toys can usually be purchased thirty U.S. dollars in their twenties and up. As a general rule, if the toy was purchased for the season collectors value or higher value options are more parts that are moving moreRange of accessories. Strictly speaking, every character that is built for a period (eg, a picture of Barak Obama) continue to give more money years down the road, but will not be as fun to play.

Predator Action Figures - The Basics

Science fiction horror film fans (aren't they everywhere?) just love the Predator film series. Fortunately for collectors, there is no shortage of cool action figures representing the characters from these flicks.

The Predator Franchise

The Predator film series is a science fiction horror film franchise. The series started in 1987 with the film Predator, produced by 20th Century Fox. This was followed by a sequel, Predator 2 (1990), and numerous novel, comic book and video game spin-offs. There were also three more incredible films: Alien vs. Predator (also known as AVP, 2004), Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (also known as AVP:R, 2007), and Predators (2010).

Many Choices

Whether you consider them toys or (like us serious collectors) works of art, the many action figures associated with the Predator movies will thrill you with their variety of colors, sizes, details, and accessories.

There are really a great many Predator action figures on the market. There are dozens of related figures to be found using a simple online search. Quite a few companies have produced Predator action figures, including Sideshow Collectibles, NECA, and McFarlane Toys.

McFarlane Toys released, in 2004, a series of figures from AVP that range from 8-1/4 to 8-1/2 inches tall. These articulated (poseable) figures are finely detailed and some come with removable accessories. The five figures in this series are Scar Predator, Elder Predator, Celtic Predator, Grid Alien, and Battle Alien.

Cost

The cost of the Predator action figures runs a wide gamut. Some can be bought for about $7, while some of the figures from McFarlane Toys can fetch up to $300. Some of the rare figures that are no longer in production are hard to find in the usual retail outlets, but may be seen on eBay for $500 or more!

Other Features

The available figures differ in size, ranging from 2 to 24 inches or more in height. Some are rigid, and some poseable. Some figures require assembly, and the product description of these should include the terms "kit version" or "some assembly required".

Bundles and Related Products

You can buy sets that include two, three, or even four, separate characters in a single package. There are also bundles of characters with dioramas. There is an Alien Lunchbox With Drink Container, and several T-shirts with related artwork. You can even get an AVP Chopper Predator Mask Life-size Prop Replica.

Final Words for Buyers

Some people buy these figures as toys, while others consider themselves collectors. Be aware that some of the Predator action figures are known to be fragile, while others are quite robust. The best way is to get on some products, for contributions that go into the details to look for personal experiences. Do not buy an actual product for the small children who are swallowing. I'm sure you will find a great selection, lots of fun!

Why Kids of All Ages Enjoy Transformer Toys

Girls and boys all over the world love action figures and one of their favorites are the Transformer toys. With both good and evil figures, the toys keep their imagination going and can instigate hours of fun times. If you have a child in your life, these may be the gift you have been looking for.

The general idea of this particular line of toys is that they transform from a robot into a vehicle or another object. The robots come from another world, but have the capacity to change into something that will blend into the society on Earth. The story behind the Transformer toys is what keeps the kids interested.

From this line of toys, games and videos have been created. These only help to spark the imaginations of kids of all ages. The first video came out in 2007 and was an instant hit with everyone and rejuvenated the interest in the toys that first became available under the Hasbro line in 1984. Since then, more movies have come out, as well as several video games. Just be sure that you follow the age appropriate guidelines.

While people all over the world purchase these toys for children, the truth is, there are many adults that have become collectors. Some of the toys that have been deemed as collectible go for well over $150. However, parents who want to buy them for their children will find many at a cost of around $20 or $30 and each one will keep their kids entertained.

What makes kids of all ages enjoy Transformer toys? It could be that they are a complex piece of machinery that turns from robot to vehicle. It could be that they inspire their imaginations. Then again, it could be that these toys make it possible to spend a fun afternoon together with their

Action Figures We Love to Collect

When action figures started to win the heart of children, it was thought that these would be limited to those kids only. With the passage of time, it has been found that adults also enjoy their time with these toys. People of all ages like to collect them and get pleasure playing with them.

Though both children and adults collect the figures, they may not have same inspiration and interest. Adults may collect them as collectibles. Children may want to play with them and so they need them. So, we should not be confused about this.

If you are not prepared to spend a lot of money on figures, you can choose an open box type. Otherwise you may go for pristine packaged action figures. You can buy a mint condition one.

To a child the strengthened packaging may not be of real value. He may like to have it close without any plastic covering on the figure. Enjoyment matters.

In case of breakages, some people take more precaution. They buy two copies of one figure. Expensive, isn't it? Still, to preserve one piece, some people spend some more money.

If I ask you to tell the names of most popular action figures, you will speak of Superman, Star Wars, batman and Ninja Turtle etc. These classic toys may cost you one to two hundred dollars at a resale value in some special cases.

A new toy can be purchased at the price range between twenty and thirty dollars. A toy which moves and more accessories attract people more whether it is being collected for keeping it as collectible or for playing with it. Cost also varies accordingly.

There is one psychology about the action figures. Any contemporary figurine, for example, Barak Obama figure, may become very popular and even expensive for the time being but in the long run it does not attract much attention.

Marvel Legends Action Figures and the Wolverine Character

I love the X Men scene and when X Men toys asked me to take a sneaky peep at what there was on the market - I just couldn't resist. I figured that there maybe one or two things connected to Wolverine that I would like but hadn't really prepared myself for the onslaught of paraphernalia that there actually was.

Initially I decided to learn more about Wolverine as a character. Who was this beast of a man? What did his claws signify? And quite frankly what was the real attraction? I soon discovered who Wolverine actually is and what the fuss was about.

Wolverine is a mutant who has the power to have accelerated healing. This empowers him to have the ability to regenerate damaged tissue. The speed at which Wolverine is said to heal can vary greatly and is directly proportional to the damage sustained. He is a mutant possessed with a killer instinct. His hearing and vision are also enhanced so he can detect anyone a mile off at least!

Wolverine brandishes a pair of sharp steel claws. They are an excellent weapon when he is in combat with others. Although I have to admit whenever those steel claws slice out f his hands a shiver goes through my entire body. His entire skeleton is hardened with adamantium and this also makes him an excellent fighter, he is also handy to have on your team as he has extensive experience of explosives and weapons too.

So, with all the interest that this wonderful character creates, I then took a long hard look at what is around on the market. I found some excellent Marvel Legends Action Figures and bought them back to the x men toys office so we could have a closer look. These were our initial thoughts.

We absolutely loved the Wolverine Select figure. A wonderful 6 inches tall replica of Wolverine with a deluxe Weapon X Base too. The best features of it was the originality of it all. Or you could get the X Men Origins figures that Marvel have produced. There are four to choose from too. The first is a Wolverine Yellow Costume action figure that is taken directly from the comic series. There is the Logan movie version - Hugh Jackman as Logan in this 3 and ¾ figure! The third of these is Wolverine in a brown costume and the fourth of is Wolverine in his army gear as seen in xmen origins: wolverine.

So you see Marvel have thought of it all. Not only have they most of the characters as action figures, they have then taken the many faces of Wolverine and produced one to suit every taste. I may not have known lots when I started this search but as my journey took its toll I discovered heaps. So many bits of Wolverine on the market, you can buy a Marvel Legends Action Figure of Wolverine or you can buy a bobble head of wolverine, costumes of wolverine in every shape and size and not forgetting the unforgettable claws too.

In conclusion, I have to say that I enjoyed the thrill of learning about the x men and received far more than I gambled when my curiosity of the Wolverine figure took shape. I hope you enjoyed my synopsis of the Marvel Legends Action Figures but in particular my own assessment of Wolverine himself.

The Most Popular Modern Toys and Games

What a waste of money! While the best bet is to talk to some children who are "in the know" to find out what's popular in the different categories, here's a list of some of the toys and games that are selling the most right now.

Action Figures

Action figures are always popular with boys and girls. Hot this year is the WWE's set of action figures. With these collectible items, kids can re-create their favourite matches from TV or the can even create their own. If you're not familiar with the popularity of WWE wrestling entertainment, you might be surprised when you see the huge collection of action figures they have available.

Perhaps the best selling of all action figures this year are those from the Transformer movies. These have particular appeal not only from the motion pictures, but because these action figures actually change shapes from people into vehicles. Like most things, there are some adults who are seriously into collecting these.

Toys and Games

Toy retailers are reporting that board games are making resurgence, becoming a popular family pastime (again). This means that the traditional games like Monopoly, Life, Scrabble, Yahtzee, and others will have new life.

You've probably heard about the mechanical hamster that is popular this year. This toy rodent is part of the Zhu Zhu Pets line by Cepia. This toy has created a huge end of year demand and is destined to be the top toy of the year.

Learning Toys

Learning toys are good for kids, especially for the younger children who aren't so keen on toy fads. Still, parents are up on the latest and greatest "must haves," so you should take time out to find out what's hot. A good place to start is with Vtech whose Nitro Web Notebook product gets young kids safely online for a learning experience that mimics adult behaviour.

Outdoor Toys

May not be trendy, but they might help get children outside playing (and exercising) rather than flopped in front of the television set. Consider traditional items like bicycles and wagons then see what other cool outdoor toys you can find.

He-Man Action Figures and Other 1980's Toys

Without question, one of the most popular toys of the 1980s was the He-Man action figures collection. The collection rose to popularity in 1983 with the release of the He-Man television series that ran for two years.

The full range of the He-Man toy figures collection is extensive. On its first release in 1983, the collection of He Man action figures included Skeletor, Beast Man, Blade, Blast-Attack, Buzz Saw Hordak, Clawful, Crocobite and Dinosorb.

In 1985, Mattel, the makers of He-Man action figures, decided to expand the range by bringing He-Man's sister into the fray, She-Ra. She inspired her own range of He-Man action figures including Angella, Arrow, Blue Lightning, Bow, Castaspella, Catra and Clawdeen.

But He Man and his companions were not the only toys that were popular in the 1980s. G.I. Joe, Thundercats and the Super Powers Collection were also big sellers. All of these characters became popular off the back of television cartoons which were the preferred way for toy makers to market their toys in the 1980s.

Also popular in the 1980s, particularly in the States, were a range of toys called Transformers. These were basically toys that doubled as cars or robots that could transform into something else, usually a warrior or a weapon. There were few little boys in the early 1980s that didn't have one of the transformers.

The competition between these toys was fierce. Today many people have vast collections of all these toys including the He-Man action figures confirming their heartfelt and lasting appeal.

Collecting Toys - Millions of Adults Still Love Toys

Collecting is definitely one of the most popular hobbies and there are almost as many different types of collectibles as there are collectors! Practically anything can become a collectable item, but one of the most commonly collected objects are actually toys. People of all ages seem to love toys, especially those toys from around the time that they themselves were children.

Collecting toys, for many, is more than just a fun hobby, it is an investment. A lot of the older toys are very rare, especially in the better conditions and/or with the original packaging. Naturally, the better condition a toy is in and whether or not it still has the original packaging heavily influences its value.

Collectors spend a lot of money to get certain toys to add to their collections. In 1988 the an auction was held at the Perlman Toy Museum in Philadelphia and over $5,000,000 in toys were sold in under 24 hours!

Often toy collections are handed down from one generation to the next. Sometimes the receiver of the toy collection loves and appreciates toys as much as the one who passed them down, while other heirs will sale the toys at auction. Some of the largest toy collection in the world were amassed by two or more generations of collectors.

Although collecting vintage toys can be a great investment there are many people who aren't concerned so much about the monetary value as they are the sentimental value. For many people collecting toys is a way to hold on to their youth and keep a bit of the fun alive in their lives. As an example a friend of mine has a huge collection of action figures, most of which he has had since he was a child. Now, even though he has long since "grown up", he continues to add more action figures to his collection. He says he wouldn't consider selling any of his older toys because of their sentimental value.

Action figures and Barbie Dolls are some of the most collected types of toys.

The Barbie Doll was created in 1959 and did not have bendable legs. An original 1959 Barbie Doll fetched nearly $26,000 at auction! While most Barbie Dolls wouldn't bring that much there are many of them that would sell for hundreds, or even thousands of dollars. Over the years there were a lot of Barbie clothing and accessories that were produced. Quite often this clothing and many of the accessories can actually be worth more than the Barbie Doll itself.

In 1964 executives of Hasbro decided to emulate the great success of the Barbie Doll with young boys. They introduced the GI Joe as the boys alternative to Barbie. For the first time boys began to "play" with dolls on a wide scale. It was OK though, the GI Joe was an action figure, not a doll.

In recent decades a new type of toy hit the scene and has now become quite a collectable. How many of you collect toys from restaurant kids meals such as McDonalds Happy Meal? A full set of a particular series can often bring double the price or even more than was paid for them and you got burgers, fries and a drink to boot! Once a series is discontinued it can become quite difficult to locate those missing from your collection, especially if you insist on "mint in bags". Serious collectors will often spend $5 to $10 for that one toy they need to complete a set. Of course some of the older "happy meal" toys from the 70s and 80s are worth much more than that.

Kids Learn in Using Ride on Toys

If you are thinking that rides are only for your kids to enjoy and nothing more...you're wrong. There are several educational toys that are found on the market today. There are books, puzzles, musical instrument, doll houses, action figures, board games, building blocks, card games and even electronic gadgets. All these will surely help your kids learn but ride on toys can teach a lot of things to your kids.

When you look at it, it' s just a simple toy-kids ride on it, make it move and that's it but in reality, these types of toys help your kids learn many things. Their development can be through intellectual, physical, emotional and social.

Ride on toys comes in different colors, shapes and sizes and in line with these, by simply asking your kids what do they like best, they will be able to describe what they want, "I like the green one" or "the yellow one that has 3 big black tires". Obviously, their visual skills are used here. Imagination definitely will come in once they play it.

Their intellectual ability is practiced. Motor skills are also enhanced with this toy. With physical contact, using eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, they know how these ride on toys can be maneuvered. They learn how to manipulate it and eventually became "masters" of it. Their large motor skills are also developed by body coordination and balance.

Their mathematical skills are also challenged by solving problem. If one day, their toy won't work, they will know how to make it work again. It can be due to the battery or a part of it that's causing the problem. Again, their ability to categorize and construct the possible solutions will enable them to solve it.

Cooperative and linguistic skills are the skills that will be developed once they are able to play with other kids. They will learn on how to mingle with their playmates. They will have a chance to express their ideas, thoughts and feelings. They will learn to listen to other kids' ideas and suggestions. Here is when your child cooperates with their play mate in reaching their goal when they play "pretend". This skill is best developed when you allow them to mingle with other kids on parks or playgrounds.

Lastly, in developing their independent skills, with their ride on toys, they will learn to decide on their own. They will learn on how things really work.

So when you have second thoughts of getting your kids ride on toys because you think it will not help them grow, now you can stop thinking twice...these toys will definitely help your kids in improving in many ways.

A Real American Hero (1982)

G.I.Joe action figures were successfully re-launched in 1982 when Hasbro produced a smaller scale line of figures to try to compete with the popular Star Wars action figures. The decision to go with a smaller scale also allowed Hasbro to produce a variety of vehicles and play sets to increase the excitement of the line with youngsters.

The smaller scale line was canceled in 1994. A small assortment of figures were released in 1998, exclusive to Toys "R" Us, to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 3 3/4 inches line.

The Return of the 3 3/4 inches G.I.Joe

It didn't take long after the last anniversary line to see the small figures make a comeback on the shelves. In 2000, Hasbro released a selection of figures and vehicles which lasted until 2002 and were sold in pack of 2. In 2002, the line was now called "G.I.Joe vs Cobra" and each collection from 2002 to 2005 was centered around a theme. After the basic edition of "G.I.Joe vs Cobra" there was "Spy Troops", and then later on the "Valor vs. Venom" theme.

After a brief hiatus in 2005, where Hasbro released another type of G.I.Joe action figures (Sigma 6, an 8-inches action figure), the 3 3/4 figure came back in the form of a direct-to-consumer line, which was available later at retail because of the success with collectors.

25th Anniversary

2007 was the year of the 25th anniversary of the "A Real American Hero" line. To commemorate the event, Hasbro released another collection of newly sculpted small scale figures based on the original designs of many of the most popular characters. The new figures replaced the classic "o-ring" waist with a swivel chest feature and many more increased articulations points.

This new line was a total success, and what was supposed to be only 2 collector set of 5 figures each became a full fledged line which is still running in 2008.

The Toy of the Film, Or the Film of the Toy?

How movies and TV shows have come to dominate the toy market

It's impossible to ignore how today's toy market has come to be ruled by films and television programs. From action figures to bicycles, soft toys to dressing-up clothes, the vast majority of kids' toys and games these days are tied in with the likes of Darth Vader, Jack Sparrow, or Dora the Explorer. And if existing toy ranges want to compete, there's only one thing for it - make their own movie! Transformers, Bratz, and Masters of the Universe are all lines of toys that have received the movie-star treatment, with more to come. But when did this relationship between toys and films begin, and how did it get so big?

A brief history of movie merchandising

The first notable production of a toy based on a film is still popular, and instantly recognizable around the world, today. In 1928, Walt Disney created the character of Mickey Mouse, who was an instant hit on the silver screen. Two years later, the first stuffed Mickey Mouse dolls were on sale, beginning a successful tie-in that has lasted more than eighty years. From Snow White onwards, successful toy ranges were produced to accompany Disney's feature films. Other popular cartoon producers followed suit, licensing toys and other merchandise to cash in on the popularity of their characters.

In 1952, Mr Potato Head became the first toy to be advertised on television, netting over four million dollars in his first year on the market. Mr Potato Head would later experience a revival after his appearances in Disney's Toy Story movies, which rejuvenated sales for several classic toy ranges. These days, Mr Potato Head continues to follow movie trends, and can be purchased with Darth Vader and Spiderman outfits, amongst others.

In the 1960s, a line of dolls were manufactured, based on US TV show The Lieutenant. Called GI Joe, this range of figures were instantly successful in the US, and are still popular there and in other parts of the world to this day. Other television and film series, including Batman and James Bond, had great success with merchandising spin-offs aimed at children.
The explosion in toy and movie tie-ins

But the relationship between film and toy was taken to a whole new level in 1977, with the release of the movie Star Wars. The film's creator and director, George Lucas, shrewdly realised that the heroes, villains, monsters and spaceships that populate the movie, lent themselves effortlessly to the toy market. Kenner's range of Star Wars figure and toys came to dominate the toy industry for years to come, and original items of Star Wars merchandise are now highly sought after collectibles which can fetch a high price.

Toys start starring in their own movies

The massive success of Star Wars toys showed toy manufacturers just how important television and the cinema could be in marketing toys to children (and their parents). The 1980s saw an explosion in this style of toy merchandising, especially in the world of TV. In the early '80s, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe became the first cartoon series to be based on a range of toys, rather than the other way around. This technique led to huge sales of the toys, and led to a spate of toy-related TV shows and movies based on toy ranges, including Care Bears, My Little Pony and Thundercats. In 1987, He-Man got his own movie, called Masters of the Universe, with Dolph Lundgren portraying the plastic action figure.

This was the start of a trend which would lead to the blockbuster movie Transformers in 2007, the biggest film so far to be entirely based on a range of toys. Another Masters of the Universe movie is in production, with a bigger budget than the original and the benefit of modern special effects techniques. The advent of CGI makes it much easier for filmmakers to recreate the world of toys on the big screen, and much loved toy ranges like Thundercats and GI Joe have films in the early stages of development.

Film and toy tie-ins are here to stay

Some may argue that such collaborations are cynically exploiting the "I want that" syndrome in the modern child. But it can also be said that the relationship between films and toys encourages imagination, story-telling, and creative development in children. After all, once the movie is over, children can continue the adventure at home, deciding for themselves how the story continues.
